In March of 2023, our founder discovered she had Ph+ B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. At 45 years old.
When she realized there was something VERY wrong with her, she went to the ER. Within 45 minutes, she was in a room with a parade of doctors around her. By the next morning, one of those doctors came into her room and explained it was Leukemia. He had already arranged an ambulance to UNC Cancer Hospital and a room was waiting for her.
A teacher at the time, she had to immediately leave the students she had make so many connections with, who had all grown as individuals. This is always heartbreaking for any teacher, when they suddenly need to leave their students.
She has been in remission since August of 2023, but due to her low immune system, hasn't been able to return to teaching yet. She decided the best way to give back what she can, to the hospital staff and patients/families, was to set up this foundation.
We hope this helps to inspire you to give back as well.
**DISCLAIMER: She, nor any of the team, are receiving any compensation from this foundation. All monies donated go directly towards giving of assistance to the families/patients at UNC Cancer Hospital. We hope there will be enough to be able to give back to the nurses and staff there as well.
